Sunday School
Sunday School is offered for K-6th grade from September through the first part of May. It begins at 9:00 am and classes conclude at 10:00 am.
Confirmation & First Communion
At First Trinity we take a process approach to confirmation. Confirmation is not about checking requirements off a list. Confirmation is not about getting to a point where you graduate from Christian education. Rather, confirmation is an ongoing and intentional process that helps to shape our young people into life-long, active, and informed Christians who, as they transition into adulthood, are confident and skilled in serving God and their neighbor. It is not going to get easier to be a Christian in this country, and our process for educating our Children in the faith should reflect the unique challenges that they will face in this world. For this reason, our formal confirmation process begins at 5th grade and does not end until 12th grade.
For 5th and 6th grade youth: Upon beginning the formal process of confirmation, youth will spend two years memorizing Luther's Small Catechism. 5th and 6th grade members will meet with Pastor during Sunday School at 9:00 am on Sunday mornings. Per examination by Pastor and Elders, 6th graders are invited to participate in the Rite of First Communion on Maundy Thursday.
For 7th - 12th grade youth: As far as confirmation goes, we are implementing one change for this year. After talking with the elders, we decided that it would be best to offer one family confirmation class on Wednesday nights for grades 7 – 12. Therefore, there will be no after school classes for 7th & 8th graders; rather, 7th & 8th grade students and parents are encouraged to attend the evening class on Wednesday nights. These meetings will begin on September 8th at 7:00 pm and will consist of a 20-minute Vespers service and a 40-minute catechism dialogue following Luther’s Small Catechism with Explanation. Below is a schedule of times and topics as well as reading schedule of sections of the Small Catechism to be read before attending class. The whole family is invited and encouraged to attend these meetings.
